CafAnimé

Some quick jobs I’m getting done for some fellow co-workers. I’m taking some time off here at the end of July into August and I plan on relaxing and focusing a bit on my artwork, focusing more on some long time jobs and hanging out with family. This was a quick gig I did for good friend of mine Cody Simshauser. He’s got a passion for doing some creative things and his latest go is a pretty tight idea for a podcast that talks about Animé while sipping some coffee (or tea). He’s got a couple of episodes up. Check them out here! ANYWHO… This is the cup of joe I designed for him. Lemme know what you think. I used AutoDesk Graphic working both on my iPad while traveling and on my MacBook Pro at home. Gotta love that cloud stuff.Cody_Cafe_Final

A great friend of mine and full-time Twitch Creator Ezilii asked me to make an emote for her Twitch subs… I love helping her out and I was very flattered when she asked, because she’s no slouch when it comes to being an artist… Um… that’s what her degree is in… SO, anywho. Check her out on Twitch. She’s a part of a great and quickly growing community. Watch Ezillii here!!!

Procrastination… with Friends?

So back at the beginning of 2016 I said that I wanted to get an animated short finished up. Work, life and just the idea of putting something together drained me. Luckily I have friends at work that don’t let up. (one in particular, Thanks Peter!) About two months outside of 2017 Peter came up to me and said something along the lines of “about two months left.” I was like, “ah yep” thinking that he was talking about the end of the year… turns out that’s EXACTLY what he was talking about. Then he reminded me about my New Years resolution.

Over the next few weeks, he would remind me about days ticking down. I started taking him pretty serious when he started offering up his time to help me out. Very graciously I accepted his time and his talent (he is to an animator) to help me get things finished up. The dood is a bowl full of enthusiasm when it comes to pep talks. Not normal corporate pep talks, but legit, from the heart pep talks. It was freaking amazing. To come to the finish line he helped me put together my drawings… and some of his own to get the job done. He did most of the software legwork, but it was what I needed… I needed to see his workflow. He’s dedicated to helping people out and that’s what makes him an awesome person. It’s not perfect by any means, but the idea was to finish before the end of the year. All in all it took us probably about 2.5 hours from start to finish. No more procrastination.

Sloooooowly!

HEY!

So yeah, slowly starting to get more posts up. My wife has been out of town for a week for training so I’ve been playing more on my computer and what happened?! I drew something! Maybe she should leave town more often… (No Please N0, I missed her too much.) <—- brownie points!!!

Cool, check it out. Short time laps of a Wile E drawing. I really do dig that dood.

ENJOY!

Wholy Snoiky… a NEW Post!

So I got an iPad Pro for Christmas from my wife. Was one of those things that I wasn’t too happy about, but her heart was definitely in the right place. There’s some great apps on the App Store for drawing and a good friend of mine from work it letting me borrow her Apple Pencil. (Thanks Loren!) I’ve been trying to use the iPad a bit instead of my Cintiq. I’ll admit its nice being able to sit in a nice soft cushy chair and draw digitally. (just missing Mischief)

I had been drawing some of the classic cartoon characters. I’ve got Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty from the Flintstones and my youngest son reminded me that I needed to add Dino. SO, I decided to use the iPad to draw the good ol pup.

I’ve been using AutoDesk’s Sketchbook for years and found that their iPad Version offers a time laps screen recording option. So not only did I draw Dino, I recorded the process. I didn’t bother with any commentary for the first time around, but who knows, maybe sometime in the future I’ll talk through the process or maybe just jabber…

“i was thinking”

OOOOH MY GOSH!!!! IT’S BEEN SOOOO LONG!!!

hehe, I’m posting nothing big, just me playing around in Animation Desk from the Mac App Store. I was doing some sketches of eyes, they’re fun really, they can tell stories. After a couple I just started thinking… BOOM!!! Animation. Not really. As you can see the eyes and nose slip down the page, the boxes around the eyes and nose tip are my attempt to keep them the same size. It’s been too long since I did this. I’m gonna get back into gear and do something with all that money I spent to call myself an “animator” : P

Pop-Up Post…

Nothing at all big, just been toying with drawing more… I’ve SUCKed really hard at my wife’s challenge, and for all of those that are following, I apologize.

BUT… I have an update.

WILE E COYOTE!!!

Chuck Jones has been a huge influence in my life and in my drawings. I remember when I found out that he passed away. I was at home in Illinois (before I moved to Missouri) and I had just woke up and I heard on the radio that “cartoon legend Chuck Jones, passed away.” I never met him, but I started crying… Grown man, crying over someone he never met. That’s the impact that he had on me though. Walt Disney is an icon in my life, but Chuck was someone that was real in the time period that I lived. I saw new cartoons that he did while I was in high school for crying out loud. : P

Wile E is by far my favorite cartoon character out there, so he just feels natural to me to draw him and enjoy him in all of his craziness. Enjoy. : )

Procrastination and Success

So over the last few weeks that I’ve not been posting, I’ve been thinking to myself that I’m not going to be able to do much with what I’m doing and want to be doing if I don’t start driving myself to doing things. I work at a local Apple retail store and my job drains motivation out of me. So I rely heavily on friends and family to keep me moving. I had a friend of mine text me the other day and was like. . . “Soooooo, why you sucking?” Not really he’s not that way at all. He just asked, I haven’t seen anything posted recently, whats up? So I promised him that I would get a couple of things up tonight before the end of the day. Today was a pretty busy day, so at the end of the day, I’m finally getting ready to sit down and post some progress on things I’ve been working on. Pegasus is finally getting finished. I need to remove the layers, finish up some line work and retouch, but I think he’s turned out pretty good. My youngest son wanted a Mickey Mouse, but I couldn’t settle on a style so I went with a newer form of Mickey similar to the new Mickey Mouse shorts from Disney. He’s a little taller, but he’s just sketched out. Hang with me here.

The Challenge Week 1

Running a bit behind here on the challenge, but I’m working on getting things in gear. I just finished my Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Everyone says it all started with a mouse, but it actually started with Alice in the Alice shorts, then Oswald. Walt lost Oswald to Charles Mintz in 1928. In 2006 Disney was able to bring Oswald back home after working out a deal with NBC/Universal for a play by play sports announcer.
